From Dallas, Texas

Ah, the great state of Texas, where everything is big, including my dinner bill last night.

I received a challenge this week which I will attempt to meet with courage and honor: Mike challenged me to use the phrase “all hat and no cattle” at least once while I am in Dallas. And that I must call someone "Friendo."

I shall make every effort, and report back in this space on my success.

In the mean time, pardner, it's back to work with me.

Good luck with your challenge. Remeber, don't drink downstream from the heard. Also, don't squat with your spurs on.

It would seem every region has expressions like that. In South Carolina I remember "That Dog Won't Hunt" as a popular expression for saying "I don't agree with that."

In Turkey they say, and I'm loosely translating, "That goat would make a poor sister-in-law." No, I don't know what it means.

I have heard "All hat and no cattle" from my days in Oklahoma.

While you are there, don't forget to try their "World Famous BBQ Ribs".
